So you want to simplify your life and start your natural living journey!
But what does that ACTUALLY mean?
There is NO hard and fast answer to that.
Starting your natural living journey could mean cutting down on fast-food and eating more from scratch meals, or switching out your cleaning products to a more plant based alternative to cut out the harsh chemicals.
For someone else it could even mean switching your skincare products that contain less ingredients than store bought which you can find here.
There is an abundance of things that one can do to “living a more natural lifestyle” however it is up to the individual person and what they want to achieve.
When I think of living a more natural lifestyle, I think of being more mindful of the products I am purchasing, and less listening to big pharmaceutical representatives or guru experts trying to make a buck with products that are really just green washed. My first go to is to use home remedies that are tried and true, using skincare products made to be good for the skin and not make skin conditions worse, being mindful of cleaning products and choosing to eat more from scratch meals than fast food or pre-packaged meals.
But how do you actually start living a more natural lifestyle?
It’s easier than you think.
First things first! Start small and stop with the googling!
Stick with one thing at a time and commit to learning that topic really well.
It could be more from scratch meals. I often stick with the basics because that decision fatigue comes on so quickly. For me, it is usually meat, a starch and a whole lot of veggies. I have been really into asparagus right now since it is in season.
An attempt at starting a garden and growing our own food.
It could be switching out your skincare products.
Natural soap is so good for the skin since it keeps all of its hydrating and moisturizing properties.
I have super sensitive skin and so does many in my family. I decided to make my own products after finding out how easy it can be. I’ll be posting more on how you can make your own later down the road. Choosing to use homemade products has really helped my sensitive skin, my acne, my daughter’s dry and patchy skin along with many of my family members eczema prone skin. Cutting the harsh chemicals has really benefited the overall health of our largest organ on our body.
It could be as simple as choosing a different toothpaste or deodorant. (That’s how I started my journey in 2015) 🤯. I absolutely LOVE this toothpaste! I have had super sensitive teeth in the past and after using this toothpaste, the sensitivity has basically gone away!
I stopped using deodorant all together for the most part (thanks to my asian genes haha). When I do use deodorant, this is my all time favorite and unfortunately, I have such a hard time finding it sometimes and I can only find it in small health food stores on occasion. This is similar and the same brand. These deordorant’s are the only ones that I have found to last AND not mess up my clothes! A win win in my book!
Whatever you option you choose to start with, start small and start with one thing at a time.
Next is to be patient with yourself!
Learning sourdough is a GREAT way to practice patience!
Take the time to learn about 1 topic, or 1 skill or try 1 different product and experiment with different brands, different skills or techniques or ways.
There is no hurry to be living completely off the land, making everything yourself and never going to the store, because that is not easy to accomplish nor is it practical or attainable for every person.
When you jump into trying to do everything at once, you will overwhelm yourself and quit. There is also a potential increase in waste of your hard earned money if you just completely switch every product to a more natural alternative.
Don’t waste what you are currently using to try a more natural brand unless you really really want to because you just want to start that product now. It takes time to try new products, skills or techniques for most people to see if it really works for them.
If you’re trying new foods or a more natural diet, just know there could be a detox phase where you may think it isn’t working. The body takes time to filter anything you cut out (more on that on a different blog at a later date 🙂
Lastly, everyone is different in their approach so do what is best for your situation and lifestyle.
There is no “right way” to living a more natural lifestyle. In fact, it looks different for every family and every person. While there might be one person who is doing the from scratch cooking, making their own laundry detergent and cleaning supplies, natural skincare, homemade shampoo, homemade remedies for ailments and sickness and this and that, the neighbor next door might only want to do from scratch cooking. Or they are just switching their toothpaste and that’s all.
Whatever it may be, every journey is different.
Some areas might be more “natural” than others and that’s okay.
Comparing your life to others that might be living “more naturally” will be the theif of your joy and can potentially be a cause of quitting prematurely. Every journey is different and everyone is so uniquely different which is how God has designed us.
I have chosen to live more naturally because not only does God still heal but he grows plants and herbs and provides so many resources from His land that has healing benefits. Your kitchen herbs have healing benefits.
From struggling with sensitive teeth, to fighting constant acne since being a teenager, to having health struggles, I said enough was enough and slowly and surely started making a switch to products that were more natural and had less ingredients.
My first ever “successful” attempt at making “natural” soap!
Now, 9 years later since starting, I have made some minor changes and switches in living more naturally, but I will say I don’t do EVERYTHING because it is not practical for me or my family.
Living naturally is different for every family.
